If you want to be liberated, don't practice, spend time creating merit, and bring it back to the Buddha world to become a Buddha.
Students asked 1/2:
What is the difference between the work of Bodhisattvas such as Manjushri Bodhisattva, Universal Worthy Bodhisattva, Vimalakirti Bodhisattva and the work of the Zen Buddhist Patriarchs?
Teacher replied:
This is the organization of Buddhism. Each person has their own responsibilities as a role model for Zen Buddhists to learn from and practice properly. For example:
- Bodhisattva Manjusri: Lucid wisdom, cut off 16 human natures that make mistakes.
- Bodhisattva Samantabhadra: Determined to discover the 6 ignorant parts of human nature, so that there is no more ignorance.
- Layman Vimalakirti: This Zen Zong dharma is reserved for laypersons, but not monks. Why? To become Buddhas, we have to be the children of the Buddha. Buddha’s Child is either a Buddhist or a layperson. While, to become monks, people have to practice through grades and ranks.
During Shakyamuni Buddha’s life time, do the Buddhas with great merit entering the human world to transform sentient beings often play the role of Bodhisattvas like Manjusri, Samantabhadra (The Universal Worthy) or Vimalakirti to help the current Buddha complete the mission of saving mankind?
Teacher replied:
According to the principle, the Buddhas who teach the Way must have 2 Bodhisattvas and an assistant lay man, including:
1. Manjushri Bodhisattva: His duty is to remind Zen Buddhists not to use other human nature except Kindness - Decorum - Uprightness - Wisdom - Right Belief.
2. Samantabhadra Bodhisattva (The Universal Worthy): His duty is to remind Zen Buddhists to break through the six ignorances of human nature.
3. Vimalakirti Layman: His duty is to tell Zen Buddhists two parts:
Part 1: If you want to be liberated, don't practice, spend time creating merit, and bring it back to the Buddha world to become a Buddha.
Part 2: If you want to be a monk, you must practice diligently, dedicatedly, and achieve the sainthood, then you can become a monk and a Saint on this earth.
