As for merit, whether it exists or not is a matter of merit. When you naturally feel happy in your heart, that's when you have merit.
Student question 1/6:
I lent your books to others. In my mind, I thought that by lending them, I could accumulate merit”. Uncle! Is this thought considered impure in accumulating merit?
Teacher answer:
When you lend the books to others, don't think too much about it. If someone praises or thanks you, just smile. Only then will your action create pure merit.
As for merit, whether it exists or not is a matter of merit. When you naturally feel happy in your heart, that's when you are receiving merit.
Many people download the Zen Buddhism Q&A video on thientong.com from Tan Dieu Zen Zong Pagoda and upload them to Youtube. Does this create pure merit? Because the person who uploads the video first will get more views than those who upload later.
Teacher answer:
If you do it for the sake of your own reputation, then it's not pure merit. No matter how much merit you accumulate, the deities will blacken it.
Those who accumulate merits for their reputation will easily be deceived by the wandering saints.
Merits accumulated for the sake of reputation are not pure merits, and the deities will not introduce them to the Ritual Committee. No matter how much merit they accumulate, they cannot return to the Buddha World. Unless the person has a mission to do so.
I intended to share my knowledge about Zen Zong Buddhism to help others and to accumulate merits. However, after you said that those who follow Zen Zong Buddhism should have a physical science background, I dare not share anymore.
I think people who have physical science knowledge usually don't follow any religion. When I mention Buddhism in my sharings, I think they will have a barrier in their mind. So is it okay for me to say that 'Zen Buddhism is solely a philosophy'? Will I violate any rules?
Teacher Answer:
It's okay for you to speak normally about Zen Zong Buddhism, but remember not to advertise it unless you are authorized to do so. Saying that Zen Buddhism is a philosophy is okay and does not violate any rules.
Student question 4/6:
Uncle, now I understand that accumulating merits means creating a golden body for a Buddha. When I talk with my Zen Zong friends and mention the golden body of the Buddha, will the merits be invalidated or will I seem too overconfident?
Teacher answer:
The merits we create on this Earth are blackened so that we can live in this material world. However, When you're ready to return to the Buddha's realm, and cease all worldly affairs, your merits will no longer be blackened. At that point, you'll be able to see the Buddha’s navigator and return to the Buddha's realm.
Student Question 5/6:
Uncle! When my biological parents give me some money, I use that money to create merit. So, do my parents also receive merit? And how can I help my parents receive merit?
Teacher Answer:
You took the money from your biological parents, created merit, and then told your parents about it. If your parents are happy, they will also receive merit. If they are not happy, they will not receive any merit.
Uncle! Offering to a Buddha teaching Liberation Dharma method creates merit. So If you are also teaching the liberation Dharma method, and are a practitioner without cultivation and without accomplishment, why don't you allow Zen Zong Buddhist followers to offer you, so that they can receive merit?
Teacher answer:
I am only a composer, what qualifications do I have to ask for offerings? It's best to find another way to create merit with your money.
